I know this pretty little lady. She's got a hot little husband and an adorable little boy. They are a sweet Maine family — picture perfect — including the little bun she's got growing in her oven. I call them little because they're diminutive. She barely clears five feet and he's maybe six inches taller. I don't know, maybe I'm "sizeist" but their smaller-than-average stature just adds to their allure. It adds to the surprise factor, too, when you find that they're xenophobic. Well, I'm not sure about the husband and the 2-year-old, but she definitely is. The other day she struck up a conversation with me about wanting to send the immigrants home. I asked her what tribe she was from, like the Penobscot or maybe one from away like the Cherokee. Mind you, I don't smile when I ask this — my standard rebuttal question — but for some reason every time I ask it, the person I'm asking laughs like I'm kidding.
Hitch 'em up, move 'em out: Trail ride signals return of the rodeo
On Friday, the streets around Houston's Memorial Park resembled something out of a John Wayne movie as 13 trail rides with some 4,000 riders converged on the city for Go Texan Day and the precursor to the start of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. As is tradition, all of the trail rides converge on Memorial Park before the rodeo parade, which starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday. It's an annual celebration of all things Texas that had its beginnings 56 years ago. .

XC70 Volvo 'more macho'
Nothing says "you've had a few children, stopped having sex, given up on life and traded in the spicy coupe" as much as a big old family station wagon. In the past, station wagons were basically a sedan with an annexe out the back to shove luggage, the children's toys, the dog and the mother-in-law. I'm kidding . . . it would be a bit mean to shove Fido in the back. Today's station wagon has been reinvented with snappier silhouettes that curve like a coupe, have shorter overhangs and snazzy names like Sportwagon. The Volvo XC70 is a toughened all-wheel-drive version of its big, lumbering V70 wagon and now the updated model comes with a few new styling cues that make it more macho. Despite the Volvo badge, this wagon certainly doesn't say: "I've given up on sex." Even so, the new model is a family wagon with several safety and family-friendly features such as world-first two-stage integrated child booster seats in the rear, extended rear curtain airbags, stronger side structures, two-stage airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, improved crumple zones, rear parking alerts, a stack of advanced electronic driver aids, whiplash protection etc.
