| NASCAR: Stewart, Busch tongue-lashed
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch were ordered to steer clear of each other Saturday in hopes of preventing a repeat of their high-octane confrontation on the first day of Speedweeks. NASCAR officials summoned Stewart and Busch for a follow-up meeting Saturday morning, just hours after the two drivers tangled on the track and possibly in the NASCAR officials' trailer afterward. The entire garage was buzzing over Busch allegedly insulting Stewart and Stewart retaliating with a punch claims no one would confirm or deny. NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said officials have not decided whether to penalize either driver, but delivered a stern warning. "You two guys better give each other plenty of space," Hunter said. "You clearly understand where we are with this and we're going to continue to think about it." Hunter said any resulting penalties would be announced Monday or Tuesday.
Waldoboro Town Manager, First Selectman Surprise Town With ...
The chair at the end of the Waldoboro selectmen's table was noticeably vacant Tuesday night as close to 100 people filed into the meeting room at the town office. Most selectmen's meetings find fewer than half a dozen citizens in attendance, and most find Town Manager Lee Smith in his seat at the end of the table. Smith was not at the regularly scheduled select board meeting, but employment lawyer Clare Payne was in the audience as First Selectman Carleton Johnson announced that Smith had tendered his resignation, effective Jan. 1. No reason was given. Payne was on hand as the legal counsel who helped draft the agreement, apparently in the executive session that commenced earlier that afternoon. The resignation marks the end of Smith's 26-year career as Town Manager.
Hormone Therapy Raises Odds of Breast Biopsy
I am a 43 year old woman who NEVER has taken birth control. I rightly sussed out that these poisonous chemicals (estriadol IS A CARCINOGEN - no matter HOW you try to play it down! HELLO!!!) represent no answer to any problem that cannot be solved by using a bit of personal responsibility.. Now all the sudden when the money generating mechanism that IS American Healthcare is bankrupting and eating whole families alive do we - oops! start to take a look at these vaulted 'miracles' of scientific discovery. What rot. Sure, if you've let yourself get fat, if you've spent decades poisoning you body with toxic estriadol instead of telling the men to 'fold it bud..', if you've bought the beauty-product myth and smeared petrochemically derived goop over your body, if you've got most of the 'new and improved' synthetic products that are so ubiquitous as to be invisible in your home - sure, stick your breasts in a machine, smash them flat and irradiate them too! Why the heck not? Just drive off a cliff while you're at it.
Big ballgame ... well, for Feb. 29 it is
Sure feels more important than a Feb. 29 exhibition that no one will remember in four weeks or in four days, for that matter. Andruw's not here. Said he'd rather wait to get booed at Turner Field than get booed here and there. But I've got news for him: I'm willing to bet he's in the Julio Franco/Greg Maddux category in terms of return receptions in Atlanta, rather than the Tom Glavine category. In other words, I bet Andruw gets an ovation, even a standing ovation from most, when he comes back the first time to Turner. And why not? Dude played his posterior — ample as it might have been in latter years — off while winning 10 consecutive Gold Gloves, playing virtually every day, and hitting more than a few bombs for the Braves over the past decade-plus.
Brian McNamee's opening statement
I am not proud of what I have done, and I am not proud to testify against a man I once admired. To those who have suggested that I take some personal satisfaction in bringing down Roger Clemens, let me assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. I take responsibility for my actions in the hopes that others may learn from my mistakes. My father, who served for over 24 years with the New York City police department, instilled in me that people are human and make mistakes, and that I should always step up and acknowledge my mistakes despite the consequences. And so here we are. Providing information to federal investigators has been very painful for me. I did not seek out federal investigators; they sought me out. I did not want to cooperate because I knew that if I told the truth, I would be providing damaging information against people who I worked for.
Police chief says charges likely against top cops
And that will be a matter that proceeds, I assume, before the courts," she said. "It may mean we have to take action in terms of looking to charge individuals; it may be other disciplinary procedures might be put into place." Ms Nixon's comments follow speculation that the OPI is likely to recommend serious criminal charges against the police union's Sen-Sgt Paul Mullett and former assistant commissioner Noel Ashby. A report by retired Federal Court judge Murray Wilcox, QC, is expected to be tabled in State Parliament this week. It's been suggested that the report will recommend that Mr Mullett, who has been suspended on full pay, be charged with perverting the course of justice and that Mr Ashby and former police media chief Stephen Linnell be charged with misconduct in public office. Mr Wilcox's recommendations will be referred to the Office of Public Prosecutions, which will decide whether to lay charges.
Disabled girl turned away by bus driver
Ms Pickup, of Leith, said when she tried to board the bus from Ocean Terminal on Saturday there was a woman with a buggy taking up the wheelchair space. She claimed the driver did not ask the woman to fold up the pushchair, but simply said she would have to wait for the next bus.The helpdesk consultant said when she phoned to complain she was told the driver was not able to move people from the space. She now plans to write to the First Minister asking for the issue to be looked at."I was just so angry with the bus driver because of his attitude," she said. "I thought these spaces were meant to be for wheelchair users, and I can't see why the woman couldn't fold up the buggy so my daughter could get on the bus."All I keep thinking about is what if my daughter was an adult and travelling on her own and the bus driver told her she wasn't getting on.
