Teacher arrested in bomb threats

After requesting a transfer from Klinger, Romanyszyn became a kindergarten teacher for two years at Longstreth and had been a fourth-grade teacher there for just over a month when police said she left her first threatening message.

The threats at Longstreth began on Oct. 11 when a student discovered the first message (Expletive) You Bomb Today, scrawled in red marker on a bathroom wall, according to the affidavit. About two hours later a guidance counselor found You wont catch me. I got a gun too, written on a paper towel left outside the counselors office, and that afternoon another message was found written on a paper in the hallway, according to the affidavit.

Tips for savvy medical Web surfing

Ryan asked one of her colleagues, a research specialist at the Texas Medical Center Library in Houston, to search the medical literature. She came up with an article about an antibiotic that worked against cat scratch fever but wasn't toxic.

"We sent the doctor the whole article, and when he read it, he said, 'This is great. I hadn't thought of that,' " said Ryan, the president-elect of the Medical Library Association. Nick took the antibiotic and recovered without complications.

So if you're trying to find medical information for yourself or someone you love, and you're not lucky enough to have access to a professional research librarian, what do you do?

"The Empowered Patient" assumes you already know the basics of good Internet searching: .gov and .edu sites are to be trusted, as are sites for major health centers (think MayoClinic.com) and health organizations (such as the American Cancer Society's cancer.org).

QPR 3-0 Stoke

QPR prevented Stoke from going back to the top of the Championship table with a convincing victory at Loftus Road.

Mikele Leigertwood put the hosts ahead with a stunning 25-yard drive and then struck from 12 yards from Rowan Vine's headed knock-down to double the lead.

Stoke had captain Andy Griffin harshly dismissed following a challenge for the ball with Hogan Ephraim before Akos Buzsaky's low shot made it 3-0.

The Potters hit the woodwork twice and worked hard but without reward.

QPR coach Luigi De Canio:"We have beaten the top teams this season.

"This shows we need to acquire the mentality when playing teams at the bottom of the table that we show against teams at the top.

"Consistency is important, because our position in the table is defined by our performances week in, week out."

Stoke manager Tony Pulis on Griffin's dismissal:"I don't think it's a sending off.

Stylish 1919 townhouse

Just like scoping out the perfect shot, professional photographers Joseph and Anne Sachs allowed themselves time to find exactly what they wanted in a home. Having rented for many years in Baltimore's Roland Park neighborhood, they were seeking something with similar ambience.

"We wanted something with character," said Anne Sachs, co-owner, along with her husband, of Artful Weddings by Sachs Photography. "A classic-style house, with hardwood floors, high ceilings and a fireplace."

What they eventually found was a three-story red brick Georgian-style townhouse on Newland Road in the southeast corner of the city's Guilford neighborhood. Built in 1919, the home features slate roofing, white wood trim, a screened front patio porch and a third floor with dormers.

Lewisville may end garage conversions, citing parking problems

Lewisville city officials may close the door on residents wanting to convert their garages into living spaces.

The popularity of conversions in the last 15 years has gradually transformed some residential streets into parking lots – an eyesore for city officials and an obstacle course for emergency vehicles. Some residents park vehicles in front lawns when streets fill up.

Lewisville's City Council is scheduled to vote Monday on a proposal requiring residents build a replacement garage or carport before converting a parking structure into a living space. That would effectively ban most conversions in older neighborhoods, where lot sizes are too small to build another garage.

Farmers Branch and Richardson have similar ordinances. But most of the other older suburbs with similar street-parking issues require only that homeowners obtain building permits for conversions.

Chattering Head

Jack Thompson is an ignorant fellow who likes to talk at length about things he knows little about. However, not only is he harmless, he is often entertaining. Instead of rehashing those basic principles, how about I just give you the video of his Fox News appearance. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
