Pair of plows taken from trucks at Tradeport

Another auto parts crime was reported Feb. 23, when an employee from Portsmouth Ford on the Spaulding Turnpike told police that two tailgates were stolen from pickup trucks parked on the lot. News reports indicate the theft of truck tailgates is widespread and the crimes are occasionally solved when the items are listed as for sale.

On Jan. 10, local officers were dispatched to Clean Harbors on Gosling Rd., where a report was taken about the theft of a catalytic converter, again from a Ford pickup truck. The converters, also known as cats, are valued at approximately $70 each, because they are coated in a wash of valuable metals, including platinum and rhodium.

Nader Runs, Obama Responds Wisely

After four previous bids, mounted in varying forums and with varying goals, Nader is used to the slings and arrows that will be tossed his way. He is conscious and committed. He will not back off.

He knows how to campaign in the face of a firestorm of criticism.

Above all, he knows how to make himself heard — even when almost everyone who guides the political processes of the nation wants to shut him up.

The latter knowledge will serve him well in a 2008 contest where the man who is either a national treasure or a national frustration, or perhaps both, may find himself more marginalized than ever before.

Nader is running for the same reason he has run in the past: Because the likely nominees of the two major parties do not begin to meet the standards that might reasonably be asked of progressive contenders in 21st-century America.

Online Scrabulous craze stuns game sellers

Scrabulous, which most players use on the Facebook social-networking site, has a board that looks just like Scrabble, and the same number of letter tiles with the same point values. Players can send invitations to others on Facebook or search for strangers to play with by posting a message.

There is no time limit for moves or games. Scrabulous keeps track of player statistics, and it does not allow fake words. It cannot, however, prevent players from cheating. One method is an online "helper" program, which generates a list of possible words based on the letters a user has.

Fans threaten boycottTwo digital game companies, RealNetworks of Seattle and Electronic Arts of Redwood City, Calif., say they have signed deals with Hasbro to create online versions of the company's games.

Transport firms clash

Relatives of patient Kirpal Singh, who was admitted to the hospital on February 28 with respiratory problems, alleged that wrong medication had caused the death of the patient, who was otherwise improving and was to be discharged later in the day.

The irate relatives of Kirpal Singh, a resident of Sufian Bagh, manhandled Dr Deepak Rajput and nurse Manpreet, whom they charged with administering a wrong injection, resulting in the instant death of Kirpal Singh.

Dr R.K. Goyal, earlier treating the patient, was on leave today. In his absence, Dr Rajput was attending to the patient.

The hospital management, however, denied allegations of wrong medication, maintaining that the patient suffering several complications had had a heart attack, resulting in his death.

The doctors claimed that the patient was put on a ventilator but could not be saved.

American Axle workers expect long strike

Idea of pay cut motivates pickets at American Axle Eric Morath / The Detroit News

DETROIT -- The smell of burning wood hangs over Holbrook Street, with American Axle's hulking factory flanking both sides.

On driveways and sidewalks in between, striking workers trace a path into the mounting snow as they circle the smoldering barrels for warmth.

In the middle of a pelting Michigan snowstorm Friday, strikers bundled up to withstand the elements to try and endure what many of the 3,600 union members now say could be a weeks -- or months-long strike.
