Gettysburg's Warrior Stadium project on view

Gettysburg Area School District unveiled a sketch plan for its new Warrior Stadium, submitting drawings to the Straban Township Planning Commission.

The sketch plan, displayed Wednesday, is a typical first step for a large project such as a new stadium, which entered its planning stage last April. Architects from Derck and Edson Associates will present preliminary and final plans to the planning commission as the project continues.

The sketch plan's purpose is to give the planning commission and community members a feel for the design of the project, and the opportunity to ask questions or address any initial concerns they might have.

"In reality, it's a courtesy, but the function is to inform everybody of what's to come," said Alan Zepp, chairman of the planning commission.

Blogging: Parents, "do your homework"

The site was created after a group concerned parents asked the News Sentinel to help create an ongoing public forum to discuss school issues.

It was honored on Monday with a national award from the Newspaper Association of America as an innovate effort in user participation. That means that an idea pioneered here in Knoxville by group parents that said "let's do something" is being held up as a model for other communities across the country.

But to truly have an impact, you need to get involved, or to put it bluntly: Parents, do you homework.

Below is what people are talking about at School Matters. Lurk about if you like until you feel comfortable, but get involved by joining the conversation. If you have questions about the site, contact Online Editor Jigsha Desai.

Giants re-sign Vizquel

However, if you think this is all they are doing, then you don't really know what is going on. The Giants need to make a pretty big splash in this offseason, or risk a drop off at the gate next year.

DIC’s Andy Heyward

We have to be out on home video. Very soon the telephone is going to be extremely important. Kids are getting phones at younger and younger ages today—its a commodity, thats all it is today.

I have to share a story with you. A few years ago my daughter was about 11. She was cleaning out toys and stuff that was going to be given to charity that she didnt use anymore. And I saw in the box a cell phone and I said, Why are you giving that cell phone away? And she said, Well, Dad, you cant download music with this, you cant take pictures. What can you do with this? And I said, Its a telephone, you talk! She looked at me like I was an alien! Kids today look at telephones as devices with so many different functions. And by the way, kids dont do e-mails at all today. E-mail is how their parents communicate.
